Budapest became a hit tourist destinations in recent years. This is not a surprise, as it is a picturesque city, easy to reach and offers many cultural, architectural and recently also gastronomical highlights. When you spend a few days in Hungary's capital, you will surely want to start the day with a delicious breakfast or brunch to give you enough strength and stamina to conquer the city. Below you will find a couple of ideas where you will find great spots for breakfast and brunch in the centre of Budapest.
Brunch Bistro Budapest
Brunch Bistro Budapest only opened in March 2019, but it is already a favourite spot when it comes to Hungarian restaurants in the city centre. It is the younger, but bigger sister of Cafe Brunch (see below) with an extended menu during breakfast & brunch time, but it also offers a light lunch selection and a proper À la carte menu in the evening with Hungarian and international dishes.
It is located on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky street which runs from the city centre - Deak Square - to the West Railway Station. Along the way you will see the magnificent St. Stephen's Basilica which can also be seen from the outside terrace of the restaurant while enjoying a glass of Hungarian wine or local beer.
The restaurant is open every day of the week and serves breakfast and brunch from 8.00am until 3.00pm. You can order a light lunch including soups, salads and sandwiches in addition to the brunch menu between 11.30am and 3.00pm.
The breakfast & brunch menu is extensive with the favourites including Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale, but you will also find Hungarian specialities, healthy options and plenty of delicious dishes for people with a sweet tooth, like the fluffy pancakes with maple syrup and fresh fruits...mouth watering isn't it? All pastries are freshly baked in the restaurant every morning and don't miss their breakfast cocktails like Mimosa, Bloody Mary, Espresso Martini or Irish Coffee.

Cafe Brunch Budapest
Cafe Brunch Budapest is a charming breakfast spot in a quiet, yet very central pedestrian street, only a few steps away from the beautiful Hungarian State Opera House. The inside is relatively small, but in good weather they have a large outside terrace seating up to 40 people. The small green garden in front of the cafe with the fountain make this a truly ideal location for a relaxing start of your day.
Try their Hungarian scrambled eggs with Hungarian sausage and a nice spicy touch to it, but you will also find plenty of options for vegetarians and the more healthy minded. The freshly roasted coffee is excellent and so are the fresh juices and smoothies. Breakfast is served until 3.00pm every day, so don't worry if you want to sleep in while on visit to Budapest.
During the afternoon and evening they serve light dishes including soups, various salad options and freshly prepared sandwiches. All cakes are home-made so they are a must, but you can also enjoy a fine Hungarian wine or local craft beer on the terrace while watching people stroll up and down the street.
